Meta Delays Phoenix Mixed Reality Glasses to 2027
According to a new report from Business Insider, Meta has delayed its Phoenix mixed reality glasses until 2027. The first glasses were expected to arrive in late 2026, but now the company says it needs more time to “fine-tune the details.”
The Phoenix glasses are part of Meta’s push into the world of AR and MR. The company wants to create lightweight, stylish glasses that can blend digital objects with real life. But Meta says the device is still not ready for everyday users.
Why Did Meta Delay the Glasses?
Meta leaders said they delayed the device for three simple reasons:
1). The Hardware Needs More Work :-
Meta wants the Phoenix to feel smooth and easy to use. Engineers asked for more time to fix issues and improve performance.
2). Budget cuts at Meta’s Reality Labs :-
The division working on VR and AR is facing cuts of up to 30%, which has slowed work.
3). Meta is Focusing on AI and wearables :-
The company is investing heavily in AI tools, Because of this, some AR projects are moving at a slower pace.
What Phoenix Was Supposed to Offer :-
- Very lightweight design (about 100 grams)
- Mixed Reality Features
- More affordable than premium headsets.
- Easier to use than heavier VR headsets.
Because the design was simple, many expected the Phoenix to be a huge success.
What This Delay Means for Users
The delay means fans will have to wait longer, but that could also be a good thing:
- You could get a better, more stable device.
- Meta will have time to refine the design.
- The mixed reality market could be strong by 2027.
For now, Meta says its other devices, like wearables, will arrive first.

Meta is still working on its next-gen headset and new AI devices. Phoenix has been delayed, but the company says it hasn’t been cancelled.
